Chandler is the Valley’s top city to keep an eye on in 2024 after seeing increased rental activity throughout the last 12 months, according to an analysis from our researchers at RentCafe. Chandler is the most sought-after city in the state by renters and ranks No. 28 overall in the U.S.

RentCafe.com has determined the most in-demand rental hubs of 2023 after closely monitoring renter interest in the last 12 months. Our latest Rental Activity Report highlights the most searched cities for renting and hints where demand is likely to stay high in the coming months.
So, what makes Chandler a renter favorite? Here are some highlights from the report:
- Apartment hunters’ intense search for a new rental in the city led to a 19% rise in page views for Chandler listings in 2023 compared to 2022.
- Renters favorited a triple number of properties (up 195% — the 6th highest rise among all 150 cities analyzed), which shows apartment hunters’ clear intention to move here.
- This buzzing rental activity also led to 6% fewer available listings in the city on RentCafe.com.
- Chandler was the only city in Arizona in our top 30 most in-demand cities by renters in 2023 at #28, surpassing larger rental hubs like Seattle, WA.
What about the other cities in Arizona?
Peoria was the 48th most sought-after city for renters in 2023. Interest for Peoria is also highlighted by the number of favorited properties doubling year-over-year (the most important step before leasing) and a 9% increase in listings traffic. Phoenix ranked as the 51st city for rental activity in 2023. Regionally, Chandler is the West’s most in-demand rental hub, while Peoria is 9th and Phoenix is 10th.
Additional region-by-region findings:
- The Midwest saw the most rental activity in 2023, with 12 cities making the top 30 list — more than any other region. Cities included Kansas City, MO (#2), Cincinnati (#3), Minneapolis (#6), Detroit (#12).
- The South saw nine cities make the top 30, led by Atlanta at #1.
- Five Northeast cities cracked the ranking, led by Queens, NY, at #11.
