Sanford Institute of Philanthropy launches pitch contest

The Sanford Institute of Philanthropy at Maricopa Community Colleges is launching a video pitch contest for its Fundraising Academy participants, and you can help decide which nonprofit organizations will compete for prizes in the final in-person pitch on March 20.

All pitch contest participants are part of the Institute’s Fundraising Academy, an 80-hour fundraising training program designed to provide nonprofit professionals with the skills they need to make a larger impact in their communities. Participants include volunteers, development professionals and executive directors from 9 local nonprofit organizations.

Participating organizations include: Casa Grande Locals, Congressman Ed Pastor Center for Politics & Public Service, Expect More Arizona, Glendale Community College, Payson Senior Center, Recovery Empowerment Network, St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance, Teen Lifeline, and Youth Rising International.

Using the skills learned throughout the Fundraising Academy, each participant created a 1-minute pitch video about their nonprofit. All videos are located on the Sanford Institute of Philanthropy at Maricopa Community Colleges Facebook page. Views, likes, and shares on each video will be counted as votes. The voting window will be open from Friday, February 22 through Friday, March 8 at noon.

The top three organizations will move on to the live pitch on Wednesday, March 20, where they will be judged by a panel of expert judges including Al Molina, chairman and CEO of Molina Fine Jewelers and Black, Starr & Frost. The winner of the live pitch will receive a full-page ad in AZ Big Media’s AzBusiness Angels magazine. Each of the top three will also receive a 1-hour consultation from presentation expert Ashley Bright to prepare for his or her in-person pitch.
