A North Central Phoenix go-to spot since 2005, Sierra Bonita Grill, recently launched a completely overhauled menu. It’s the first time in eight years since the restaurant has made a significant menu change. Since its inception, the restaurant’s cuisine has reflected the diverse flavors of the Southwest, converging various cultures that have strongly influenced Arizona’s dining landscape.
Sierra Bonita Grill is named for and inspired by the oldest, continuous family-run ranch in Arizona, the historic Sierra Bonita Ranch in Wilcox, which was known for its progressiveness and unwavering hospitality. Over the years, the menu at Sierra Bonita Grill has evolved to become more Mexican cuisine focused. While this is still an important component to the menu, Sierra Bonita Grill’s Owner, Nate Hopper, wanted to bring the menu back to its roots.
“When I first learned about Sierra Bonita Ranch, I knew that I wanted Sierra Bonita Grill to honor our state’s ranching heritage. The updated menu now puts more emphasize on ‘out on the range’ cowboy-style cooking, while still integrating ingredients prominent in Mexican and Native American cuisine. We’re representing the old west, with a modern approach,” said Hopper.
One of the most notable changes to the dinner menu is the addition of a “From the Ranch” section featuring a variety of steaks, chops and chicken, such as a 14 oz. New York Strip ($38), an 18 oz. split bone-in Ribeye ($42), a 10 oz. bone-in pork chop ($24), or a half roasted chicken ($27), to name a few. Each entree is paired with a choice of a side dish and a housemade sauce. Side dish options include a baked potato, seasonal vegetables, green chile mac ‘n’ cheese or green chile scalloped potatoes. Sauce selections are horseradish cream, roasted tomatillo, roasted guajillo chile au jus, and chimichurri.
Lighter additions to the menu include a Vegetable Noodles and Shrimp ($28) dish, featuring shrimp and squash and zucchini noodles, in a SBG butter, citrus and white wine sauce, or an Avocado Toast ($10) topped with arugula, cherry tomato, Cotija, radish, and lemon oil.
A selection of new salads has been added to both the lunch and dinner menus. A few standouts include the Roasted Brussels Sprouts Salad ($16) with grilled shrimp, mixed greens, Brussels sprouts, red beets, goat cheese, red onion, dried cranberries, toasted almonds, and balsamic vinaigrette. The Bacon Wedge Salad ($16) features iceberg lettuce, bacon crumbles, spiced pecans, black beans, cherry tomatoes, red onion, bleu cheese, and a balsamic reduction. The Red River Salad ($17) is mixed greens topped with grilled chicken, panela cheese, cherry tomatoes, roasted corn, green chiles, and poblano ranch.
Many longtime Sierra Bonita Grill favorites have remained on the menu, including the Buttermilk Chicken, Smoked Red or Green Chile Pork Roast, Carne Asada, Grilled Fish Tacos, Carne Asada Tacos and SBG Signature Burger.
