Chompie’s, a true family-owned business and “Arizona’s New York Deli Since 1979” – announced that its new Jerusalem Challah Bread is now available at all Arizona Costco Wholesale stores. The seventeen Costco locations are spread out across the state, including Tucson and Prescott.
Owned and operated by the Borenstein family for nearly 40 years, Chompie’s is a New York-style delicatessen, restaurant, bagel factory, bakery, and caterer.
“We are so excited and thankful that Costco has chosen to sell our new Jerusalem Challah Bread at all Arizona locations,” said Neal Borenstein of Chompie’s. “This is our first time offering a food product in Costco, and we are confident that Arizonans will love the ease of being able to pick up their favorite bread while doing their routine shopping.”
This year, the Borenstein family traveled to Israel where they were inspired to bring back authentic Jerusalem challah bread to Arizona for the first time. The family noticed that the circular, braided shape of the challah had become popular in the outdoor markets of Israel.
While Costco will initially only sell Chompie’s Jerusalem Plain Challah Bread, a traditional seeded Jerusalem Challah Bread is also now available at all five Chompie’s locations across the Valley.
Several types of Chompie’s challah, breads and bagels are already available year-round at various Valley grocery stores, including Fry’s, Basha’s and AJ’s Fine Foods.
Challah, which simply means “a loaf of bread”, is made in various shapes and sizes, all of which have a different meaning. Traditionally the Jewish Sabbath and holiday bread, challah has a rich history baked with tradition passed down for hundreds of years.
This announcement comes just in time for the Jewish High Holidays starting September 20. Chompie’s is also proud to offer its traditional Rosh Hashanah Dinner and Yom Kippur “Break the Fast” menu.
