Chris Madsen will join  as the new Deputy Aviation Director for Business and Properties on January 11.

Madsen has more than 30 years of experience in the aviation industry.  Most recently, she worked as the director of operations for a boutique consulting firm that specializes in concessions planning and financial analysis.

In her new role, Madsen will lead the Business and Properties division which manages all aspects of business and real estate functions for the City of Phoenix Aviation Department that includes Phoenix Sky Harbor, Phoenix Deer Valley and Phoenix Goodyear airports.

Madsen will oversee the leasing of four million square feet of facilities, airport ground leasing, negotiating and managing agreements with 1,600 tenants and will manage parking operations.

“We look forward to welcoming Chris to the team,” said Jim Bennett, director of aviation services for the City of Phoenix.  “Her extensive aviation and business experience combined with her leadership skills will be great assets to our airport system, especially as we embark on a new retail program at Terminal 4 and modernize Terminal 3.”

Before working at a consulting firm, Madsen held several leadership positions with the Port of Portland and Salt Lake City Corporation, both within their Aviation Departments.

Madsen was at the Portland International Airport for 14 years where she oversaw concession development and leasing, managed the airport airline affairs committee, negotiated airline leases, oversaw contract administration and managed property leases for general aviation fixed base operators, cargo buildings, in-flight catering and more.

Under her leadership, Portland International Airport’s concessions program won numerous awards including Best Program Design.

Prior to joining the Port of Portland, she worked for 15 years at the Salt Lake City International Airport where she was responsible for real property management and oversight, including land acquisition, lease compliance, passenger statistical analysis, easement negotiations, and tenant relations.

Madsen holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Utah.
