Booker T. Evans, Jr., recognized as a leader in the legal profession and for his lifelong commitment to diversity and community service, has been named a 2016 Community Luminary by the State of Black Arizona (SBAZ). Mr. Evans and nine others will be recognized April 28 at the Community Luminary Ceremony.
“It is amazing to be among this esteemed group of people selected from the community,” said Mr. Evans, a partner at Ballard Spahr. “I truly am honored, and humbled, by this award.”
SBAZ honors individuals as Community Luminaries for their efforts at affecting change and contributing to the life of African Americans. The 2016 selection committee was chaired by State Representative Reginald Bolding, Jr.
“Booker is not only an asset to the firm, but to our community,” said John G. Kerkorian, Managing Partner of the Phoenix office. “He truly is—as described by this award—an unsung hero. He is an exemplary gentleman who emanates caring and compassion while delivering excellence in legal service to his clients.”
Mr. Evans has been acknowledged by many other organizations for his dedication to diversity in the legal profession and contributions to his community. Most recently, he received the Legacy of Advocacy Award from the Student Bar Association of William S. Boyd School of Law at University of Nevada Las Vegas. He also recently accepted a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Las Vegas Chapter of the National Bar Association, and was named a DiversityFIRST™ Individual Award Winner by the Arizona Diversity Council for 2015.
He also has been recognized as one of Arizona’s Finest Lawyers, a Southwest Super Lawyer in Arizona in White Collar Criminal Defense, a Top 100 Trial Lawyer by The National Trial Lawyers, and a Best Lawyer in America by US News & World Report, among other awards.
