The Champions of Change Awards honor both individuals and organizations. The Champions of Change Awards will be held Tuesday, May 13, 2025. Business leader of the year finalists

Here are the Champions of Change Awards finalists for business leader of the year:

Missey Boucher-Goodman, state adviser, Arizona Future Business Leaders of America 

Goodman leads AZ FBLA, a state chapter of the largest and oldest business student organization in the world. With record numbers in 2025, AZ FBLA provides leadership opportunities, promotes workforce development, requires local community service, and encourages student responsibility. AZ FBLA offers more than 60 different competitive events, 12 of which are specific to Arizona.

Walt Brown Jr., founder, CEO and designated broker, Diversified Partners

Brown is the founder of Diversified Partners, which has leased, sold, or developed more than over 5,000 commercial properties—totaling more than 12 million square feet of retail space. Developments such as The Edge and The Sydney in Scottsdale, The Metropolitan in Phoenix, and Cannon Beach in Mesa highlight the firm’s expertise in large-scale, mixed-use projects that drive economic growth.

Ben Graff, partner, Quarles

Since joining Quarles in 2018, Graff has established himself as one of the preeminent zoning lawyers furthering creative development throughout the Valley. He has championed unique land-use cases, ranging from luxury multifamily and affordable housing to industrial and mixed-use developments, to massive renewable energy utility developments. 

Mary Hagen, CEO, Colossal

Hagen is a visionary leader redefining philanthropy through innovation and impact. Under her leadership, in 2024, Colossal raised over $63.7 million, which was granted to impactful charities—a record-breaking year that underscores her transformative approach to fundraising. Hagen has pioneered a model that merges philanthropy with engaging competitions, making charitable giving both accessible and exhilarating.

Kate Janczewski, senior vice president/digital and creative services, Bell Bank

Janczewski leads all digital initiatives and manages marketing tools and technology across Bell Bank and its divisions. She also oversees Bell’s creative, design, and video studios team. An ASU graduate in broadcast journalism, she brings over 20 years of experience in strategic communications, digital marketing, media, and content creation across multiple platforms.

Patrick Joyce, Arizona market president, Bankers Trust

Joyce has led Bankers Trust’s commercial banking team since 2019. He joined the bank in 2008, playing a pivotal role in establishing its presence in Arizona. Under his leadership, the Phoenix office has grown to over $1 billion in local assets. Joyce holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona and brings over 25 years of banking industry experience.

Nate Lowrie, CEO, Bjerk Builders

Lowrie leads Bjerk Builders, the Gilbert-based commercial construction firm founded in 1986. With a background in construction from his family’s business, he previously served as CEO of Valleywise Health Foundation. An Arizona State University graduate, Lowrie is dedicated to strengthening communities through quality construction and leadership.

Stephen A. Macias, president and CEO, Optum – Arizona 

Macias came to Optum – Arizona nearly three years ago immediately changed the office culture in a positive way. He exudes a palpable sense of perseverance while allowing vulnerability. Macias builds connections by walking the clinics, talking to the medical assistants, learning their names and growing those relationships each time he sees them.

Angie Rice, co-founder, Boutique Travel Advisors

Philanthropy is at the heart of Scottsdale’s Boutique Travel Advisors, which Rice co-founded. Rice believes travel transforms lives through connections, growth, and positivity. Through education, volunteerism, and financial support, the company integrates giving into its business model to make a global impact.

Shane Snyder, president, Cannon & Wendt

Snyder began his career with the company in 1994, advancing through roles from Journeyman Wireman to Executive Vice President. An alumnus of the University of Utah, he studied economics and completed an electrical apprenticeship. Snyder actively contributes to the National Electrical Contractors Association serving as governor of the Arizona Chapter and Chairman of the NECA Labor Management Committee.

Native Arizonan Twigger has spent over 30 years transforming Arizona’s tourism and hospitality scene.
