Grant Thornton LLP promoted Marla Hummel to Audit managing director in the firm’s Phoenix office effective Aug. 1. Across the firm, Grant Thornton promoted 20 professionals to managing director.
Managing directors are the highest-level employee position in the firm and are important members of the firm’s leadership team.

Hummel joined the firm in 1994 and currently serves as the Phoenix assistant to the professional standards partner. She currently leads the Phoenix Not-for-Profit and Governmental practices and also serves on the Not-for-Profit national leadership team. She has more than 20 years of experience providing audit and consulting services to public and private companies in a variety of industries, specializing in governmental and not-for-profit organizations. In connection with these organizations, Hummel has extensive experience with financial reporting requirements and has aided entities with the adoption of complex accounting guidance. Her experience has included the supervision and management of financial audits, compliance audits, internal control consulting and systems improvement. She also has extensive experience working with entities subject to OMB A-133 compliance and reporting requirements.
Hummel is a certified public accountant in Arizona and Nevada and member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Arizona Society of Certified Public Accountants. She received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from California State University at Hayward.
