Corina Chavez Ramsey

Deputy human resources director

City of Phoenix

Background: Ramsey is a dedicated and enthusiastic supporter of the community, known for her leadership and service.  She is a deputy HR director with the City of Phoenix with over 28 years of experience. Currently, she is a board member of The Garment League, a former school board president and mentor.

Key to success: “I truly believe that finding my voice and learning when to use it has contributed significantly to my success.  Advocating for myself, for my family and for my community has afforded us opportunities that have been fruitful to my success and theirs.”

Source of pride: “As a young mom, I initially dropped out of high school and later obtained my diploma; however, my career was stalled.  Having the tenacity and courage to attend college in my 30s, while working full time, gave me the confidence I needed to step out of my comfort zone and pursue new opportunities and to help others.”

Surprising fact: “From the ages of 17 through 19, I joined the Police Explorer program.  After I turned 18, I was asked to ride with the vice squad to try and buy liquor from stores.  Several stores sold me liquor even after providing them with my identification showing I was underage.”
