Jessica Mefford-Miller

CEO

Valley Metro

Background: Mefford-Miller is committed to connecting communities and enhancing lives by delivering mobility across the fastest growing county in the United States. She is responsible for the operations, maintenance and expansion of the regional public transportation system in metro Phoenix. Mefford-Miller is a 20 plus-year transportation professional with expertise in service and capital development, public policy and leading with the customer experience.

Key to success: “The ability to develop and convey a vision that inspires, and the grit to see it through. At Valley Metro, we are so much more than buses and trains. When I look around, I see trips to ASU for a first-generation college student, access to a job that had been previously out of reach, and new skills developed on one of our construction sites. This is the vision that inspires me each and every day.”

Source of pride: “Earlier this year, I was invited to join fellow industry and policy leaders at a roundtable discussion at the White House focused on strategies for accelerating the delivery of zero emission buses in the United States. I’ve always been passionate about the environment and how transit builds healthier, more connected communities for today and tomorrow, including for the future of my three young girls.”

Surprising fact: “While I’m a transit professional, in my off-time, I’m a mom-uber, shuttling my very active daughters to any number of soccer games, practices and tournaments. Athletics do run in our family as my “me time” involves early-morning, high-intensity workouts and family trips always revolve around outdoor recreation. I also love the color green—and “green” is the color of transit, so I’ve landed in the right industry.”
