Today’s spotlight: Julie King

CEO

Harmon Electric

Background: Having a mother and father owning a company while she grew up gave King a job as a teenager and the opportunity to decide she would never work in construction again. Or so she thought. While King has many accomplishments under her belt, the most admirable is how she managed to make Harmon Electric a Certified Woman-Owned Business.

Professional advice: “Know your strengths and weaknesses. Play to your strengths and seek out good people to help in your weak points. Having a mentor is important to bounce ideas off of as well as get solid advice from. Peer groups are important to see things from other potential leaders points of view. Be humble, people respond well to others that are strong but not over confident. Don’t lose sight of yourself, take care of you, a strong leader has learned when to take a time out.”

Lesson learned in 2020: “Resilience. We can all agree that 2020 has emerged as a very strange year for all.  I have learned to look at things from a little different perspective. I can’t stay that things are not stressful, but I am learning to take those curve balls and not let them strike me out.”

Surprising fact: “I actually hold a second job. I am a fitness instructor. I teach spinning, strength training, bootcamp … but for many who know me, the most surprising is yoga.”
