Today’s spotlight: Karen Stafford

Arizona president

Employers Council

Background: Stafford joined Employers Council in 2004 and as Arizona president, she leads a team of employment law attorneys, HR consultants, trainers, and other specialists to provide excellent service to member organizations.

Professional advice: “If you have a desire to impact, guide, and support an entire organization, there is no better place to do that than HR! Learn everything you can about your organization’s vision, mission, values as well as systems and processes. Understand key results and desired outcomes of senior leadership. Balance the needs of the business, the team, and the individual such that performance and the workplace experience are maximized.”

Lesson learned in 2020: “During the most difficult times, focus on taking care of your employees and the results will follow. Over-communication is key so all team members feel updated and included. Absent certainty (especially in uncertain times), we as leaders can provide clarity to employees– clarity of our purpose, our direction, our path to get there, and how they fit into the plan.”

Surprising fact: “I’m allergic to tigers. No, seriously. It’s true.”
