Arizona Multihousing Association selects 2021 board members

Arizona Multihousing Association, the statewide trade group for the apartment industry, announces the election of its 2021 officers and board members.  

AMA’s 2021 Board Chair is Reid Butler, Owner, Butler Housing Company. Joining Butler on the leadership group are Scott Hines, vice chair, PEM Real Estate Group; Linda Coburn, treasurer, NexMetro Development; Kim Pacheco, immediate past president, Scotia Group Management; and Sue Campbell, AMC executive, Redi Carpet.

I have set some ambitious goals for 2021, and with the support of our members and leadership, I have no doubt we will achieve them,” Butler said. “My goals are both aspirational and inspirational.

“AMA provides leadership for Arizona business and government. In that regard, AMA will continue to be the ‘go-to’ voice for Arizona housing issues. AMA has been among the top industry organizations in Arizona and will continue to be,” Butler said. “With more than 100,000 new residents moving into the state each year, our industry will continue to be an economic engine. That translates to more than one million new Arizonans this decade, and about 10,000 new apartments each year to meet the demand.”

Glendale names development services director

The city of Glendale announced the selection of Jamsheed Mehta as its new Development Services Director. Mehta most recently served seven years as Town Manager and Deputy Town Manager in Marana, Arizona. Before that, he served the community of Glendale, Arizona, as an interim Assistant City Manager after several years leading Glendale’s Transportation Department as a Director and Executive Director. Before that, he served in various planning leadership roles, including his work as Chief Planner and Manager for Wichita-Sedgwick County. He has extensive experience with developing and managing local and regional programs.

As the new Development Services Director, Mehta will be responsible for the leadership, direction, and management of the Development Services Department, including Planning, Building Safety and Code Compliance. The Development Services Department is the chief regulatory agency for the city which manages investment and growth. It ensures the city’s buildings and homes where people live and work meet the expectations of residents.

“We are building a team of the top people in the industry and as a former Town Manager, Jamsheed has the expertise and vision to lead our development services department at a time when the city is experiencing exciting growth,” said Glendale City Manager Kevin Phelps. “His role is critical to all our projects and to the prosperity that is taking place and will continue over the next decade. MEB Management Services hires Jay Dassele

MEB Management Services has bolstered its build-to-rent operations with the hiring of industry expert Jay Dassele as Asset Director.

Dassele will oversee part of MEB’s build-to-rent properties and operations for large multifamily properties. He will be responsible for directing and providing assistance for all aspects of the operations to ensure ownership objectives are achieved. 

Dassele joins MEB Management Services after previously working at Alliance Residential.

“We couldn’t be happier than to have Jay oversee part of our build-to-rent portfolio,” said MEB Senior Vice President of Operations Ann Boomsma. “With his expertise in new development and operations for large multi-family properties, he is a great addition to our team.”

The hiring of Dassele represents the continued growth of MEB’s footprint in Arizona’s multi-family industry. In March, MEB named multi-family expert Scott Cook as an Owner and Principal. Cook joined MEB from Greystar Real Estate Partners.

Prior to joining MEB, Dassele served as a senior regional manager at Alliance Residential Company. He also previously worked at Stellar Residential and Mark-Taylor Residential.

Brian Poe named an Accredited Estate Planner designee

Brian Poe, CFP®, ChFC®, is newly certified as an Accredited Estate Planner® (AEP®) designee by the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils (NAEPC). Brian is a wealth counselor at Versant Capital Management in Phoenix, AZ.

Brian works closely with Versant’s wealth management team in the core areas of client financial planning and investment portfolio development and management. This includes detailed client fact-finding, data analysis, projections, and tracking clients’ analytics to ensure that comprehensive planning has been accomplished. Brian earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration from the University of Washington. Along with his new AEP® designation, he holds NASD Series 7 and 66 licenses and is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® and a Chartered Financial Consultant®. Brian was named a “2020 Young Business Leader to Watch” by Az Big Media.

The Accredited Estate Planner® (AEP®) designation is a graduate level, multi-disciplinary specialization in estate planning, obtained in addition to already recognized professional credentials within the various disciplines of estate planning. It is awarded by the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils to recognize estate planning professionals who meet stringent requirements of experience, knowledge, education, professional reputation, and character. An AEP® designee must embrace the team concept of estate planning and adhere to the NAEPC Code of Ethics, as well as participate in an annual renewal and recertification process.

The NAEPC is a national organization of professional estate planners and affiliated local estate planning councils focused on establishing and monitoring the highest professional and educational standards.
