Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) has announced its acquisition of Phoenix-based civil engineering firm Erickson & Meeks Engineering (EME). The move transitions EME’s existing operations over to CEC’s Phoenix office, which has operated since 2008.
CEC is currently building on its private sector land development capabilities to serve clients throughout the state of Arizona, having recently placed increased emphasis on the public sector market through the hiring of senior-level engineers with a history of service in Arizona’s public works arena. “This acquisition is in line with CEC’s overall growth and diversification strategy in Arizona and, specifically, the Phoenix market,” said Steven Myers, R.G., vice president of operations for CEC.
Under the leadership of Jeffrey S. Erickson, P.E., and Thomas E. Meeks, EME had been providing site civil design for commercial, retail, healthcare, hospitality, industrial, warehouse, residential, flood control and golf course projects throughout Arizona since 2000. Erickson and Meeks have more than 68 years of combined experience working on private and public projects in the Metropolitan Phoenix area. Their firm’s projects include the Tanger Outlets at Westgate, Arizona Health and Technology Park, several Topgolf golf range and entertainment facilities, Marina Heights, and the Watermark at Tempe Town Lake, among numerous others.
“EME’s expertise and service offerings were both in line with and complementary to those of CEC’s Phoenix office,” said Myers. “Our current local clients and projects will benefit from these expanded capabilities. The acquisition also gives EME’s base new access to environmental services, such as due diligence and permitting assistance, which are core offerings of CEC’s Phoenix office.”
The agreement will see EME’s three additional employees joining the CEC Phoenix office and operations alongside Erickson and Meeks, with plans for CEC to hire more individuals in the coming months to support growth in project work as a result of the acquisition. CEC will be exploring adding additional services to the Phoenix office lineup, including geotechnical engineering, traffic engineering, and survey.
