Phoenix fitness buffs, families and fun-lovers are gearing up for an exciting inaugural season of Yoga Rocks the Park, a weekly wellness festival. Yoga Rocks the Park offers yogis of all ages and abilities the opportunity to practice to a soundtrack of live music under Phoenix’s famously clear spring skies. The 2012 season promises to open big, with a convenient afternoon time slot and a host of offerings—including food and drink vendors, yoga apparel and accessories, Acro-Yoga demonstrations, fantastic music and more.

Yoga Rocks the Park will be held every Sunday afternoon through May 6, from 2 p.m.–4 p.m. with registration opening at 1 p.m., at either Margaret T. Hance (Deck) Park or Steele Indian School Park. Each day’s festivities begin with a 80-minute, all-levels yoga practice coupled with live performances from talented local and national musicians. Kids ages 3 and above can join in the fun with Camp Yoga Rocks: an interactive program featuring yoga postures, face painting, hula hooping and other surprises. Following the asana practice, the live music continues as attendees socialize in the vibrant vendor area.

The 2012 Yoga Rocks the Park faculty includes influences from nearly every major yogic lineage, with instructors from Phoenix’s top studios—including Blissful Yoga and Urban Yoga. Phoenix-based instructors include Jenn Chiarelli, Alex Austin, Ian Lopatin, Vanessa Lee, Anton Mackey and others. The musical lineup includes visiting Girish and The Luminaries as well as Phoenix-based musicians Brian Chartrand, DJ John Salisbury, Scott Johnson of the Gin Blossoms and many more.

“Phoenix is in for a treat with this event and I just can’t wait! ,” says Kristina Krump, Yoga Rocks The Park’s Phoenix Event Director. “Our lives can be busy and the world around us is moving at an alarming pace. It is important for us to take time to connect with nature, our community, our breathe—yoga and music are wonderful ways to bring all of those pieces together.” Yoga Rocks the Park donates a percentage of total revenue to the international non-profit organization Yoga World Reach, which offers yoga and alternative therapy programs to those in need, both locally and around the globe. In Phoenix, we will also be supporting 6 local non-profit organizations. One will be highlighted and benefit financially each Sunday of the event to aid in their on-going work right in our own back yards.
