With Halloween coming up this month, parents might be interested un this new study, which ranks five Phoenix area cities among the safest cities for trick-or-treating.

According to the ChamberofCommerce.org annual “Safest Cities for Trick-or-Treating” study, Gilbert (No. 2), Chandler (No. 14), Surprise (No. 15), Scottsdale (No. 16), and Peoria (No. 19) all rank within the top 20 safest cities due to low crime rates, high number of law enforcement employees and safe streets for pedestrians.

Overall, the study analyzed key safety metrics across 300 cities, including: pedestrian fatalities, violent crime, property crime, number of registered sex offenders, and number of law enforcement employees.

Here are the highlights for Gilbert:

  • Number of registered sex offenders: 2.2 per 10,000
  • Violent crime incidents: 10.4 per 10,000
  • Property crime incidents: 109.6 per 10,000
  • Average annual pedestrian fatalities: 1.40 (or 0.05 per 10,000)
  • Law enforcement employees: 16.1 per 10,000

Here are the highlights for Chandler:

  • Number of registered sex offenders: 3.7 per 10,000
  • Violent crime incidents: 17 per 10,000
  • Property crime incidents: 174.9 per 10,000
  • Average annual pedestrian fatalities: 3 (or 0.11 per 10,000)
  • Law enforcement employees: 18.6 per 10,000

The top 5 safest cities for trick-or-treating: Naperville, Illinois (No. 1); Gilbert, Arizona (No. 2); Frisco, Texas (No. 3); Sugar Land, Texas (No. 4) and Cary, North Carolina (No. 5).
