The 2016-2017 NAIOP Arizona Developing Leaders Mentor Program protégés have been announced, and the 16 young professionals come from all corners of the Valley’s commercial real estate industry.

Each protégé was selected to participate in the year-long program in which they will attend educational seminars and complete a full scale development project by the end of their year. The first educational seminar is November 16.

The new class is Andrew Althoff, Metro Commercial Properties; Lauren Anderson, CBRE; Paul Borgesen III, SVN Commercial Real Estate; Joe Charles, JLL; Phil Haenel, Cushman & Wakefield; Cullen Mahoney, Trammell Crow Company; Viktor Morozov, ViaWest Group; Daniel Raimer, Ryan Companies; Chad Schleicher, SmithGroupJJR; Kyle Seeger, JLL; Sean Sheppard, McShane Construction; Scott Sowinski, Dekker Perich Sabatini; Summer Varin, NGKF; Michael VanOmen, Deutsch Architecture Group; Serena Wedlich, CBRE; and Eric Whitehurst, Kimley-Horn.

“We are excited about the program we have planned for the protégés,” said Candace Rosauro of Jokake Construction, mentor program chair with the NAIOP Arizona Developing Leaders. “Our first educational panel is aimed at educating the protégés on the initial phases of a real estate development transaction, beginning with analyzing a market for potential opportunities and selecting a site to develop,”

Projects from last year’s class ranged from mixed-use, office, retail and multi-family to industrial. Teams presented market analysis statistics, architectural site plans, market studies and marketing plans, construction budgets, and exit strategies to three judges. The winner of the case study was Team Canvas. It comprised Sam Dul, Willmeng Construction; Martina Stephan, EPS Group; David Dickson, Wentworth Property Company; and Greg Barrett, Realty Income.

This year’s mentors include Todd Noel, Colliers International; David Calcaterra, Deutsch Architecture Group; Andi St. John, CBRE; John Orsak, Lincoln Property Co.; Andrew Geier, Layton Construction; Rick Collins, Ryan Companies; Kate Morris, CBRE; Alisa Timm, Trust Realty Advisors; Sean Cummings, Opus Group; Julie Johnson, Avison Young; Bryon Carney, Cushman & Wakefield; Danny Swancey, ViaWest Group; Michael Olson, Globe Corporation; Cathy Thuringer, Trammell Crow Company; Tony Lydon, JLL; and Patrick Hayes, Stantec.
