Alliance is excited to announce its 270-unit, Biltmore-area development, Broadstone Camelback, was recently awarded LEED Platinum Certification. This marks Alliance’s first development nationwide to achieve this level of certification.

“Broadstone Camelback was designed for LEED certification and is dedicated to improving the quality of life for our residents,” says Ian Swiergol, Alliance’s Managing Director of Development for the Southwest Region. “In many ways, Broadstone Camelback is the first of its kind here in the Valley and the high-quality nature of the property is matched with the highest-level LEED certification of Platinum.”

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a building certification process developed by the U.S. Green Building Council that recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices. To receive LEED certification, projects must satisfy prerequisites and earn points based on design and construction of energy-efficient, water-conserving structures that use green or sustainable resources and materials.

To support certification, Broadstone Camelback implemented a range of innovative measures for energy efficiency, water conservation and sustainable operations. Improvements include: an energy-efficient building envelope; recycled building materials; high-efficiency mechanical systems; water-saving fixtures and irrigation systems; environmentally-conscious landscaping, high-efficiency low-E windows, EnergyStar appliances and electric vehicle charging stations. In addition, the project team used sustainable finishing materials with exhaust fans and drains/pipes for moisture-control durability, and created a reduced-heat island effect with reflective roofing materials, paver ground covering and landscaping that minimizes heat absorption. To improve indoor air quality, there are no unvented combustion appliances on-site, carbon monoxide monitors have been installed on each floor and all residences feature enhanced exhausts in bathrooms. HERS rater testing was also completed in each apartment to inspect air tightness within the home and its mechanical ducts.

In addition to the building improvements made to achieve certification, the project’s prime location near public transportation and outstanding community resources within a half-mile walking distance support its sustainable living mindset. The property management team upholds the community’s commitment to green by following Alliance’s Focus Green program, and implementing through sustainable purchasing policies, integrated IAQ management plans and green cleaning practices.

“As a company, Alliance is committed to sustainable business practices at our offices and our communities,” says Kelly Vickers, Alliance’s Director of Sustainability. “Through our Focus Green program, we strive to minimize our impact on the environment while providing healthy, sustainable and efficient homes and offices, controlling operating expenses, driving savings and promoting environmental awareness. Not only are we extremely proud that Broadstone Camelback has earned LEED Platinum Certification, we are also proud of the hard work and dedication of our development and management teams to make this effort a reality.”
