Sun Studios of Arizona is about to become home to some of Arizona State University’s School of Film, Dance and Theatre’s Film and Media Production curriculum (FMP).

The Tempe production facility has reached an agreement with the university to host the BA in Film classes, as well as to provide access to ASU students for production of their own film projects as part of their degree programs.

Sun Studios of Arizona, which opened in May and located at 1425 W. 14th St., Tempe, is a production facility, event venue, theater and recording studio that offers two sound stages, a massive green-screen cyclorama, and full array of professional grade production and recording equipment.

The agreement provides ASU with an opportunity to use the studio’s extensive resources instead of having to pay to build facilities of its own with taxpayer funds, and creates synergy with Sun Studios of Arizona’s presence in the Arizona film and media marketplace.

“We are very pleased to reach this agreement with ASU and are excited to welcome the School of Film, Dance and Theatre to Sun Studios of Arizona,” said Darrin Ramage, president and CEO of Sun Studios of Arizona. “This will be a great partnership between a high-quality, up-and-coming film school and our extensive resources and production facilities.”

Janaki Cedanna, clinical assistant professor with the ASU School of Film, Dance and Theatre, said Sun Studios of Arizona is an ideal place for students to get a comprehensive overview of the reality of the film and production industry.

“Sun Studios of Arizona is a tremendous asset to the state’s entertainment industry and we are pleased to be able to work with them in this capacity,” Cedanna said. “Our students will benefit greatly by having access to this exceptional facility, and we look forward to beginning our classes and curriculum there in the coming months.”

ASU students will begin their coursework and production at Sun Studios of Arizona in January 2017.
