“Landscape and Lens: The West Photographed,” a modern photography collection that explores roles in a western landscape, will be on view at The Gallery @ City Hall this summer through September 30, 2015. The Gallery is located on the ground floor of City Hall, 200 West Washington Street, Phoenix, AZ, and open weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Drawn from the more than 150 photographs in the Phoenix Municipal Art Collection, “Landscape and Lens” features 28 works by American photographers, such as Robert Adams, Paul Caponigro, William Clift, Chris Colville, Byron Darby, Robert Dawson, Lee Friedlander, Emmet Gowin, Mark Klett, Skeet McAuley, Anne Noggle, Aaron Siskind, Joel Sternfeld and others. The works date from the late 1940s through the present. Their subjects range from depictions of the luminous beauty of light and landforms that have long attracted photographers and other artists to the West, to examinations of the increasing human role and impact on the landscape. The images, in black-and-white and color, represent a variety of traditional and digital photographic printing methods.
