Pests can be a real pain to have around, especially if they are disturbing your peace at home. Not only that, but some pests like scorpions and spiders can really have us screaming and running right out of our homes. Today we’ll take a look at the top 5 annoying, even harmful pests from Arizona.

1.     Skunks

Skunks are nocturnal animals that feast mostly on insects like beetles and grasshoppers, birds, carrion, seeds and fruit. Keep in mind that skunks are known for spraying a foul scent, 12 feet away, when it senses danger. Also, if you have a garden, then you may want to keep this animal far away from it before they can eat the fruits from it or knock down your plant pots. An easy way to handle the difficulty with skunks is by adequately sealing your trash cans, feeding your pets indoors, and removing the food remains after pets are done eating.

2.     Scorpions

Who isn’t scared of scorpions? These venomous creatures are scary enough to have anyone screaming. Since all scorpions are venomous, though some are less than others, it’s essential to keep your home safe from these formidable creatures, to keep your health and safety intact. In order to do this, you must make sure your home is correctly sealed because scorpions have a way of flattening out their bodies to get into the tiniest crevices. If you feel that sealing your home is not enough, then get an exterminator to spray your home for added protection. This would be a reasonable consideration because scorpions can be hard to find as they typically reside in dark places.

3.     Spiders

Do you have arachnophobia? It’s believed that 5 out of 10 people in the USA have a fear of spiders. If you are one of the five who have this fear, then you know how important it is to clear your home of these eight-legged predators. Most spiders will make their way into your home, particularly in autumn. The infamous tarantula is more for the “fear factor”, but the Black Widow or and even the Brown Recluse are dangerous. You should also know that bites from the Black Widow and Brown Recluse are life-threatening. To rid your home of spiders please make sure you clear your home of cardboard boxes, firewood, and termites. If you feel this isn’t enough, then consult an exterminator.

4.     Ants

The ubiquitous ant, may not be as dangerous, like the Black Widow or the scorpion, but they can be a nuisance when they come together as a colony feasting on the food leftovers in your kitchen. Furthermore, sometimes the bite of an ant can sting a little and therefore be bothersome. If you have an ant problem at home the best thing to do would be to clean your kitchen counters and sink before going to bed. If you feel the problem is more grave and requires professional assistance, then seek advice from an exterminator.

5.     Bed Bugs

Bed bugs have become a growing problem not just in Arizona, but throughout the USA. Bed bugs frequently make their way into your home if you inadvertently picked them up from a hotel where you were staying while on vacation. Once you bring these pests home they are tough to get rid of. There are many companies that promise you their products are just what you need to get rid of bed bugs, but the best way to rid yourself of them is by calling the exterminator. Some tell-tale signs that your home may be infected with bed bugs are waking up with red spots on your skin, blood on your bed, dark spots on the walls and bed bug shells on your bed.
