Many Americans are on the move as we head into 2026. But where are people moving to — and where are people moving from?

Nationwide, 29% of homebuyers searched to move to a different metro area between September 2025 and November 2025, according to an analysis from Redfin. The top 5 states homebuyers searched to move to were Florida, Arizona, North Carolina, Tennessee, and South Carolina while California, New York, Illinois, Maryland, and Washington were the top 5 states homebuyers searched to move from.

Of all the major U.S. metros, Sacramento was the most searched for destination among homebuyers looking to relocate between Sep ’25 – Nov ’25. Next came Phoenix, Nashville, Sarasota, and Cape Coral. Los Angeles was the most searched for destination among homebuyers looking to leave, followed by New York, Washington, Seattle and San Francisco.
