“We are honored to have partnered with Sunstate Builders on this impressive project,” said Lou Primak, principal, and COO at Agate Construction. “The successful completion of these components of the hangar positions Virgin Galactic to further advance its operations and continue pushing the boundaries of commercial space travel while still maintaining their commitment to making space more accessible and inspiring the next generation of space explorers.”

This newly constructed hangar, located at the Mesa Gateway Airport at 5559 S. Sossaman Road, will serve as the local base for Virgin Galactic’s spaceflight operations and was designed to accommodate Virgin Galactic’s innovative spacecraft and support equipment.

Engineered, detailed, fabricated, and erected by Agate Construction, the hangar’s structure and enclosure incorporates a 260 foot “clear span” structure and exterior insulated metal wall panels, aligning with Virgin Galactic’s need for a significantly sized hangar in the East Valley. As a result of its proximity to flight line operations, the project required intricate planning and execution, aligning with Agate’s reputation for delivering high-quality, precision-engineered structures within specific timelines, logistics and budgets. This is the sixth project constructed by Agate Construction for the building’s client.
