Sundt Construction, Inc., recently completed the Gila River Bridge replacement project on State Route 77 south of Winkelman, Arizona.

“The completion of this bridge is essential to the community,” said Sundt Project Manager Brady Helland. “With it being a major access point to mining centers, it was critical to provide them safe daily access.”

The design-bid-build project replaced a 1960s-era bridge with a new six-span concrete structure that is stronger, wider and safer. The project team removed the existing six-span steel girder bridge and constructed a new six-span bridge using a cast-in-place concrete deck. The work also included placing new asphaltic concrete and asphaltic concrete friction course, pavement markings, and guardrail.
