On Saturday, October 22, the Associated Minority Contractors of America (AMCA) Arizona chapter held their annual awards banquet. Mortenson was honored with the “General Contractor Mentor of the Year” award in recognition of their efforts in the realm of minority and women-owned contractor outreach and mentoring.
Devin Hunsaker, Mortenson’s senior project manager, accepted the award on behalf of the company. Hunsaker is currently managing the expansion and renovation project of the Public Administration Building on SRP’s campus in Tempe. Mortenson and SRP are committed to increasing opportunities on the project for minority-owned business enterprises (MBE), women-owned business enterprises (WBE) and disadvantaged business enterprises (DBE).
“Our company and the projects we build can only be successful through diverse outreach, engagement and mentoring,” said Bob Nartonis, senior vice president at Mortenson. “We work diligently to ensure as many small, disadvantaged, minority, women and veteran-owned firms have opportunity and a successful experience that can grow and advance their businesses.”
In order to provide opportunities for these businesses, Mortenson made a commitment to increase the business participation for qualifying businesses for the project. The company worked collaboratively with SRP to develop and host an outreach event to expand the visibility and access for all interested businesses. Ten different MBE, WBE and DBE companies were involved in the latest project as a result.
