Wet and wild swimsuit trends with Scottsdale 16’s Jenna Wood

Summertime in the Valley means soaking up the sun, but before you take the plunge and buy a new swimsuit, hear what Scottsdale 16’s Jenna Wood says is trending this summer.

The Scottsdale 16, a part of Steve LeVine Entertainment & Public Relations, is a group of young, beautiful women in Arizona who are booked for a variety of events across the Valley by Steve LeVine Entertainment & Public Relations, including corporate parties, special events, and modeling for promotional or runway shows. Wood is no stranger to bikini trends and the proper pool party etiquette for the summer.

This summer, bikini trends are about standing out and nothing about Wood’s favorite styles are boring. For her, it is all about being more unique then the traditional triangle top. She really likes cut-out styles and strappy tops and bottoms. Bright colors have definitely worked their way into swimwear designs.

“I’ve noticed I have been buying a lot of exotic prints lately,” she said. “Anything from tribal to tropical, as long as it’s bright I love it!”

With all the unique prints and eye-popping colors out there, Wood’s go-to style is mixing and matching. Wood has a few bottoms that fit her body type and then pairs them with all types of tops, primarily bandeaus or anything bright. But most importantly, no matter what your preference is, Wood stresses that “women know how to dress to their body type. Not every style is the best look of everyone.

One of the major perks of living in Arizona is the plethora of pool parties around the Valley and what you wear to these events is just as important as a night on the town. A great bathing suit is a must, but accessories make just as big of a statement. Wood likes to stand out.

“I’m in love with my gold body chain right now,” she said. Wood matches it with small gold stud earrings, bracelets, strappy sandals or wedges and, of course, sunglasses for the perfect look.

A pool party is a great place to make a statement, but also opens the door for a lot of potential mishaps.

“Nothing is worse than a girl who shows up in a bikini she doesn’t intend to get wet,” Wood said. Wood advises to stay away from sequins, beads or anything more than $200 for a pool party look.

All the bikinis and accessories shown in these three looks can be found at the W Hotels The Store located in W Scottsdale. The store offers the latest looks from the most desired designers including Yumi Kim, Dolce Vita and Vitamin A.

Scottsdale Living Spring 2012 Swimsuit Photo Shoot

Behind The Scenes: Spring 2012 Swimsuit Photo Shoot [VIDEO]

March 1st proved to be quite the day for AZ Big Media staff members. Not only were we running around preparing for the highly anticipated RED Awards (Arizona Commercial Real Estate Magazine’s Real Estate and Development Awards), but we were also preparing for Scottsdale Living Magazine’s very first fashion photo shoot!

For the Spring 2012 issue of Scottsdale Living, we wanted to focus on swimwear — because we all know in Arizona, it’s never too early to go swimsuit shopping. So that’s exactly what we did, and we received some help from three Scottsdale-popular swimwear shops: Exquisite Swimwear, Beach Bunny Swimwear and Everything But Water. Needless to say, each were incredibly helpful.

After extensive research and speaking with Tricia Apostolos, owner and manager of Exquisite Swimwear in Scottsdale, the trending swimsuit styles for this summer season surprised us. (Keep an eye out for the Spring 2012 issue to find out what they are!)

With our swimsuits and accessories in hand, it was time to head to the Hotel Valley Ho OH pool. Now, this location was entirely too fitting. With the hotel’s vintage, ’60s vibe and appearance, we knew this was the perfect place to shoot. Not only that, but our models were incredibly prompt and cooperative — and looked great in their respective swimsuits! Thanks, ladies.

But that’s not it. We had not just one photo shoot in progress, but two. The Hotel Valley Ho was gracious enough to allow us to shoot in one of their stunning suites for a couple hours. So as the swimsuit shoot was finishing up downstairs, we had the “Painful to be Pretty” shoot upstairs with photographer Adam Truszkowski. (You’ll have to flip through the upcoming issue to read this story as well!)

Check out our behind-the-scenes video of the successful swimsuit shoot. Our multimedia intern, Josh Estes, probably had a field day filming this — and he did a great job:

If you like any of the suits featured in this video, don’t worry; we’ll have everything you need to know about them in the next issue.

Thank you again to Beach Bunny Swimwear, Exquisite Swimwear, Everything But Water and the Hotel Valley Ho for being so accommodating. And to our models, thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedules and dedicating it to the photo shoot. We appreciate everyone’s help (that includes our photographers, too — Cory Bergquist and Mike Mertes).

We’re beyond excited for the release of the Spring 2012 issue — and we hope you are, too!
